Laguna Beach Business Club 2013 Scholarship Winner Entrepreneurial Grad Savors Fruits of Her Labor Alia Manetta is a young woman of many talents including those of a budding entrepreneur. Her determination, creativity, and optimism that helped launch a successful fruit canning business also landed her the $1,000 Laguna Beach Business Club Scholarship at the recent Laguna Beach High School Honors Convocation. Alia started by growing and canning her own local produce and selling it around town. After several years, it has become a booming business with deliveries twice a week. Alia, who will be a freshman at UCLA in the fall, plans on branching out to another fruitful career—this time, in medicine. The Laguna Beach Business Club is made up of professionals who live or work within the community. They are about learning, laughing, and supporting one another as well as young entrepreneurs like Alia. |

20 June | Officer Kravetz will update attendees on the departments new summer business surveillance program. Jason is a 24 year law enforcement veteran officer and currently serves as Division Commander in the Laguna Beach Police Department. Summer brings a large increase in visitors to our city and Jason will address questions regarding the department’s plan to increase enforcement activities in and around the cities business districts as well as provide suggestions on how to prepare and prevent crimes such as fraud and shoplifting. |

18 April | Norm Grossman, Laguna Beach Planning Commissioner Norm will update attendees on the commission’s current projects and priorities. Major initiatives include the Village Entrance Project and The Downtown Specific Plan. Norm has served on the Laguna Beach Planning Commission since 1988 and has been a member of the Laguna Greenbelt, Inc. Board of Directors since 1984. He has been involved in multiple environmental and land use initiatives, including two on preservation of open space in Laguna Beach. |

21 March | ![]() Chip McDermott, Founder of ZeroTrash Laguna will speak to the Laguna Beach Business Club on March 21. In 2007 Chip decided to rally local businesses to create what is now known as the 1st Saturday program. On the 1st Saturday of every month, local business owners provide volunteers with food, coffee and trash pickers, and together they clean up the streets of our cities. To date this all-volunteer organization has removed more than 60,000 pounds of trash from our communities’ streets. ZeroTrash now operates in Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, Dana Point and Chico with Seattle, WA coming soon. Chip will discuss the Zero Trash movement and his plans and vision to expand beyond Orange County. |
